Hi,

Just wondering how you legally transport your firearms to your local club in the UK,

In Ontario we have to have a PAL license (possession and acquisition License) which requires a two day classroom practical and written exam the results of the exam are. forwarded to the CFO (chief firearms officer) then after a background check (police and immediate family plus three personnel references) this can take up to 6 months you are issued with your PAL.

Now with that in-place you can buy your first long gun or hand gun, now to get the hand gun from the seller to you home requires a temporary ATT (Authorization To Transport) this a one time permit to transport from the purchase to your home.  WOOPIE I have a revolver at home!! Now to take the gun to a gun-club requires a Permanent ATT this is applied for by your gun club as long as you are a member in good standing the ATT will allow you to transport you hand gun to and from the club and any other licensed club in Ontario, always by the most direct practical route.  Guns must always be transported unloaded with a trigerlock or cable lock in a lock case with the ammunition stored in a separat container also locked and all of the above must be out of sight when transporting stored in the boot is recommended or failing that covered with a blanket, you must also carry with you your PAT and ATT and the firearm registration certificates.

We dont need any of those over here, once we have a Firearms or shotgun certificate and club membership we are basically good to go. Ok dont go waving them about they dont need to be locked up or anything.

Reckon your system was introduced just to cause as much aggro as possible for shooters in Canada, add all that restricted and non restricted business and only 5 rounds in a semi rifle unless you can fit a 10 round pistol mag in there your laws are as mad as ours.

Mind you i could probably put up with them to get an ar15 and couple of single actions and 1911 back in my hands.

Spent some time over on Canadiangunnutz seems Alberta is the place to live for a bit less bother than Ontario.

Where abouts in Ontario are you from, does your club shoot much CAS

I'm with Dewey on the subject of getting stuff back, but a slight ammendment to what he said is that when transporting.

We must keep them covered and out of sight.

As in a gun slip and in a locked boot( trunk) of your car or even under a blanket on the back seat.

In other words, not visible to a casual glance.

And could you please type quieter, don't give the b*****ds any ideas.

You're right there Angel they dont need any more ideas to make life hard for us.

Say Johnny dont suppose you know anyone in Alberta looking for a civil engineer surveyor somewhere around Calgary/Edmonton,would be good, couple of good looking clubs there doing CAS and ipsc type 3gun.

I've been there, I'd leave as well but then again, I'm biased as the last time I was there I got a speeding ticket!

Kincade if it meant getting my hands on some of them there cardidge type guns and semi auto rifles i would make the sacrifice. Would miss the sunshine of course paricularly when its -20 and theres 3ft of snow on the ground.

Angel see now thats our way of keeping the riff raff out make em pay to get in and then fine em when they try to leave to quick. They dont want to come back again.

You are however more than welcome to come with me, just remember to wrap up in your winter woolies wouldnt want you catching a cold.

Dewey,

I live in Midhurst Ontario and shoot out of The Barrie Gun Club http://www.barriegunclub.org/ ; Barrie is located about one hour north of Toronto we shoot Cowboy under SASS rules every two weeks summer and winter, in the summer there are other shoots within an easy drive every week. Have a look at the Ontario Single Action Shooting Federation  web site http://osasf.ca/ for more info.

I normally shoot with a pair of Ruger Vaqueros in 45 colt with 4-3/4" barrels either a Winchester 1897 Pump or a double barrel 20" x 12ga coach gun and for rifle a Winchester 1866 golden boy 20" octagonal barrel also in 45 colt

:(You just had to go and spoil my day, mentioning the Vaquero's, didn'y you!

That is what Mr Blair and his cronies stole from me in '96-'97, I'd only just got it and entered one comp, second pistol was a Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag.

It was pristine and shiny and worked a treat and I loved it and,,,,,,,,,I'm gonna have to stop now, I'm filling up and dribbling all over my keyboard!:(
